Pastor Warrior!

As a Pastor I have always felt like people see the position of minister as this amalgamation of a super passive overly educated bibliophile and Mr. Rodgers. In some ways they are right. I am the ultimate champion for my neighborhood and the people in it. I will be there for you whenever and wherever you need me. I do love education and find it impossible to resist a good book.

However, I have always thought there was an element to this work that was a little edgier then all of that. Then I found this image...

I am a warrior! I love it! As a Pastor we do fight back against an ever encroaching tide of all that is off in this world. We are called to be strong against all that looks to erode our faith and destroy peoples relationship with God. It is our job to say, "not in God's house" when others seeks to transform the church into a secular meeting space.

[Please be aware that there are some theological issues with equating the Cross with a sword, since Christ's death on the Cross served as an act of salvation.]

Ultimately though I would hope my congregation sees me as their ultimate champion, their wise friend, and the person they can count on to honestly instruct them in the way. If they also happen to think I have the heart of a warrior then that would be great as well.

How do you see your Pastor?
